Do I need a training course to get a CPL in Alabama?
No. Alabama does not require any training to obtain a concealed pistol license. We still strongly recommend training so you understand Alabama's defensive use-of-force laws and can carry confidently and responsibly.
Can I carry concealed without a permit in Alabama?
Yes. Since January 1, 2023, Alabama allows permitless concealed carry for law-abiding citizens 21 and older (or 18 and older for military).
Should I still get a CPL if Alabama allows permitless carry?
Yes. A concealed pistol license lets you carry in states that recognize Alabama's permit and may speed up firearm purchases.
Who is eligible for a concealed pistol license in Alabama?
You must be at least 19 years old (or 18 if in the military) and not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm.
